SAFEGUARDING

At South Launceston Little Athletics Centre, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is our highest priority.

LEARN MOREABOUT THE CENTRE

SLLAC provides children with the opportunity to learn and develop track & field skills.

We are the biggest Little Athletics Centre in Tasmania but very welcoming and inclusive. Our athletes are encouraged to compete, improve, and keep fit in a family-oriented environment.

We have a group of qualified, enthusiastic coaches ready to assist our athletes in being their very BEST and we welcome new athletes and their families to come and be part of our great centre.

OUR PRINCIPLES

PERSONAL IMPROVEMENT
Every athlete is encouraged to strive to be their personal best. Badges are awarded throughout the season to celebrate personal improvements and a special PB day is held every season.
SPORTSMANSHIP
Being a good sport is the most important quality an athlete can possess. Through Little Athletics, our members learn this important skill and are actively encouraged to lead by example.
HAVE FUN
Having fun is the best part of Little Athletics. Many children across the age groups develop life-long friendships as a result of the fun they have during and waiting for competition.
ENCOURAGEMENT
At SLLAC we encourage participation from Tiny Tots to under 15. Our centre athletes inspire and encourage their fellow competitors, with encouragement awards presented at the end of the season.
RESPECT
At SLLAC we respect our fellow athletes, our volunteers and the families that attend. We aim to treat people fairly and with respect at all times.
INCLUSION
SLLAC is an inclusive and welcoming centre. We have one all-abilities running chair for use by those with physical limitations and we can modify events for those with a range of disabilities.

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE

At South Launceston Little Athletics Centre, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is our highest priority.
We are committed to fostering a child-safe culture, where every child feels supported, respected, and protected while participating in athletics.

Our policies and procedures ensure that:
• Children’s rights, safety, and wellbeing are always put first.
• Concerns or complaints are handled promptly, fairly, and confidentially.
• Everyone in our community – parents, volunteers, and officials – understands their role in keeping children safe.

Below are two key resources that outline how we safeguard children and how to raise concerns or complaints. By working together, we create a safe and positive environment where every child can thrive.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION 25/26 SEASON

All young people's sporting organisations are required to abide by safeguarding regulations. This is no different to the process that is undertaken if you volunteer in your child's school. This year every volunteer will be required to hold a valid Registration to Work with Vulnerable People Card (formerly WWVP card). This includes, committee members, officials, track & field helpers, canteen volunteers.

Please apply. This step is vital to ensure the safety of all athletes and the smooth running of our Centre meets. Please note that it is FREE to obtain a volunteer RWVP card.
AGMs will communicate primarily through WhatsApp, so if you’re not yet in your child group(s), please see your AGM at the first meeting to be added. AGMs are not child carers; parents are still responsible for their child’s behaviour on site and between events. While AGMs may occasionally act as officials, all parents are expected to assist in officiating and site duties.
Our club runs entirely on the support of volunteers, and every family plays a vital role in making each meet a success. This season, each age group has been assigned rotating set-up, pack up, and canteen duties. AGMs will allocate crews ahead of the weekend, so please check with your AGM to confirm your responsibilities.
• Set-up begins at 7:30am.
• Pack-up can start as soon as events are finished for the day.
• If you cannot attend, please organise a replacement within your group.

To understand how you can best support your athlete’s journey, please review the Parent Role Page. Once you have registered, visit our registration page and complete Step 2 so we can assign your parent role. All volunteers must hold a current RWVP card before participating in any duties.
• Athletes are to always go around the track during the meet, no cutting through the Centre of the arena.
• No athletes are to be on field sites without AGM’s or coaches.
• Remind athletes to be track aware, when walking around the track whilst events are in process.
• During set-up, athletes should avoid the finish line area and should not play with the timing gates.
